This project's objective was to create a poster and brochure system for a social cause of our choice. I chose the organization "Bring Change to Mind," an organization whose mission is to foster conversations about destigmatizing mental health. I wanted to make something that would reach a niche audience, my audience being young girls, ages 9-11.
As I sketched different shapes for the brochure, I thought about what would resonate most with my target audience. I decided to make the shape a "fortune teller" or "cootie catcher" so that my audience could interact with the content and understand concepts communicated through it more.
I went about creating 3 different iterations for posters: one text-based "safe" option, one experimental option, and one "out there" option. I decided to explore the concept of the middle variation, as the jean texture and patches pay an homage to self-expression through clothing and resonates with the target audience age group.

Takeaways
Designing for myself is always something I excel at. This project allowed me to reflect on my time as a child and helped me think about what I would've liked to see and think is interesting. Creating ways to foster early conversations about mental health is possible; it takes strategy and careful execution, and I was able to create something that would be a resource for young girls and prepare them for bigger, more serious conversations about mental health and boundaries.
